Moving from one machine to other when all files are on External Hard Drive and don't want to go through Backup/Restore route

Today one of the user asked on forum about transferring Organizer metadata to a new machine without Backup/Restore because all the files are already on an external hard drive which can be used with new computer.

It's not a recommended workflow and always recommended way is to backup and restore from one machine to other.

Anyway, if you want to try this route, please make sure that drive head on new computer is same as that of old computer. E.g.- If this hard drive is detected as E drive on old computer then is should be detected as E on new computer. Even if that's not the case, one more step will make things work for you.

Steps -

1. Launch Organizer on your old computer
2. Open the catalog which you want to transfer to new computer
3. Go to Help Menu and select 'System Info'
4. Copy path for 'Catalog Location :'
5. Open this location in Windows Explorer
6. Copy all the files/folders from this location and move it to new computer
7. Launch Organizer and open this catalog now by keeping USB HDD connected.
8. Try some operation on files in Organizer and see if things are working.

If drive head is different on new computer, reconnect all your files correctly and go ahead !!!

Photoshop Elements is crashing on my Macbook pro with LION on it

For last few days I have been going through various forums where behavior of Photoshop Elements on Lion is being discussed. Some of the folks are seeing some crashes which are not there on Leopard or Snow-Leopard.

Following workaround has worked for many of the folks -

1. Go to Mac Settings dialog.
2. Click on Energy Saving option
3. Uncheck the "Automatic Graphics" in Energy Saving Preferences.

If you are also seeing some crashes on LION with Adobe Photoshop Elements. Try this workaround and share your experiences.

Not able to open more than one file in Adobe Photoshop Elements - Edtior

Recently an issue has been observed by folks who have upgraded to LION OS on Mac. When they try to open iPHOTO photographs in Editor, option for Opening the files gets disabled after opening one file.

There are some workarounds to this problem and work well.

Here are some details -

1. Open iPhoto and drag any image from it to the PSE Editor icon on the doc.

2. Press Ctrl+O and from the open file dialog box drag the image into the PSE workspace when all other images are in floating windows mode.

3. Set PSE as an default editor in iPhoto and then open images from there.

4. Import images from Iphoto into the organizer . From the organizer open photes in PSE Editor.

Any of these workarounds should in this case.

if you are facing this issue and trying any of these workarounds, please comment back to certify these.
