Have you encountered : "Photoshop.com Services require an update to Photoshop Elements...."

As mentioned in last post, Adobe has released a new patch for PSE7 to improve overall performance of Photoshop.com Services and some Security Fixes. Now onwards if you don't apply the latest patch, Photoshop.com services will not be available and you will see a message following message on launching Welcome Screen:

"Photoshop.com Services require an update to Photoshop Elements. Please update Elements using the Adobe Update Menager () or by checking the Adobe website at  http://www.adobe.com"

There is an "Update" button in this message dialog which takes you to a web-page having a downloadable zip file with 7.0.3 patch. Just go on with this and your PSE should be back with all Photoshop.com Services.

NOTE: When you apply the patch through Patcher.exe make sure that Welcome Screen OR Organizer OR Editor is not launched at that point of time...

How to resolve Sync Conflict when I delete a File from www.Photoshop.com.?

Resolve conflicts in Photoshop Elements due to deletion of your Files in www.photoshop.com

***Here I assume that you are ware of Conflicts in Backup/Sync on Elements and when they occcur. If not check out... My Previous Post...

1. Click the Elements Organizer Backup/Sync Warning icon in the status bar of Elements Organizer and select ‘View and Resolve Conflicts’.

2. To resolve conflicts due to deletions, click ‘Deletions’ tab in the Backup/Sync Resolution dialog. You see a message requesting confirmation and the following:

          A. The Delete List with a list of deleted files that need resolving.
                                Note: The first deletion, Delete1 is selected by default.
          B. Thumbnails of the photo with captions ‘Do Not Delete’ and ‘Delete’ to facilitate resolving Delete 1.

3. Select the thumbnail of the photo below ‘Do not delete’ if you want to retain the photo. Or select the photo (with a cross mark) below ‘Delete’ to delete the photo. Do one of the following:

A. You have multiple conflicts due to deletions in a batch, and want to resolve all conflicts by retaining the photos instead of deleting: Select ‘Use these settings for all remaining deletions in the batch’. Selecting this option ensures that all the deletions are resolved by retaining the photos and not deleting them. Click ‘Apply Changes and Quit’.

B. You have multiple deletions in a batch and want to resolve each conflict due to deletion individually: Choose the action to be taken for a particular conflict. Click ‘Apply Changes and Quit’. One of the conflicts due to deletion is resolved. To resolve the next conflict, open the Backup/Sync Resolution dialog and follow steps 2 & 3 mentioned above.

Note:

1. When you choose deletion to happen, there is another checkbox to facilitate the deletion from Hard-Disk.

In case you want to delete the file from Hard-Disk also, check “Also delete from Hard disk”.

2. If you choose not to delete the file from catalog, file will be moved out of album(s). That effectively means that files will be there in catalog without any Album association.

3. In case you want to retain a file in catalog which was not associated with any album, it will be uploaded again to www.photoshop.com.

Start Backup/Sync through Backup/Sync Wizard (For users who have never used Backup/Sync on their machine before)

The following Backup/Sync Wizard appears when Photoshop Elements is installed and user signs-in through PSE for the first time.

Choose an option from the Backup/Sync dialog box.

1. ‘Yes - Turn It ON for Me’:

Enables you to set your entire catalog for Backup/Sync. All your videos and photos are securely synchronized with your online account on www.photoshop.com .

2. ‘Yes - But show me the Advanced Settings’: Enables you to set advanced Backup/Sync settings in the Preferences dialog of Elements Organizer.

3. ‘No - Leave It OFF. I Don’t Want To Protect My Photos And Videos’: Enables you to not back up and synchronize your videos and photos.

Note: Click ‘Remind Me Later’ if you do not want to enable Backup/Sync at that instant but may want to enable it in future. Select the required option and follow the onscreen instructions to enable Backup/Sync.

Understanding Backup/Sync Preferences in Detail...

Backup/Synchronization Preferences in detail The options in the Backup/Sync Preferences dialog are detailed below :

“Backup/Sync is On” Select this option to start Backup/Sync for the current catalog.

***Only one catalog can be backed up at a given time.

If you want to backup another catalog follow the steps mentioned below:
1. Open Catalog Manager from File > Catalog…
2. Open the catalog you want to mark for Sync through Catalog Manager.
3. Launch Sync/Backup Preferences and mark that catalog for Sync by clicking “Synchronize this Catalog”.

Note: A bar shows the online space used, estimated space for the media files that are to be backup/synchronized, and the available space. Click ‘Upgrade Membership’ to upgrade your account. If you have already upgraded your account and want to buy more space, click the option ‘Buy More Space’.

Advanced Backup/Sync Options displays the following options: 

 

- New Albums will Backup/Sync Automatically: 

This option is selected by default. If you select this option, new albums you create in PSE/Photoshop.com will be backed up/synchronized automatically. If this option is not selected and you want to backup/synchronize an album created online or on your computer, then mark that for Backup/Synchronization manually.

- When I Delete A File Online, Ask Before Deleting It From My Computer:

This option is selected by default. Select this option to ensure that deleting a file online does not automatically delete the equivalent file from your Catalog. Selecting this option waits for your confirmation before deleting the file from your Catalog.

Note: If you delete a media file from a catalog, it is automatically deleted from Photoshop.com.

- Resolve Backup/Sync Conflicts Automatically:

This option is not selected by default. Selecting this option will automatically resolve conflicts by synchronizing recent change. By disabling this option, you decide the media file you want to retain and resolve the conflict. For more information about Resolving conflicts, see Resolve conflicts Section. - File Types:

Lists the file types that can be synchronized. Select the files types you want to synchronize. The file types displayed here are: Photos, Videos, Audio, PDFs, and Creations such as Photo Book or Greeting card. All the options are selected by default. If you deselect one of the file types for example, Videos, all video files are excluded from backup/synchronization.

- Restrict Backup/Sync to files smaller than this option is not selected by default. Select this option and specify the maximum file size for the media files that are to be backup/Synced.

- Folder For Downloaded Files:

You can specify the folder for Downloaded files.

- A tabular representation of the media files on the Desktop Organizer and the media on Photoshop.com is displayed. This table also includes the column Sync. If you want to synchronize an album, select the option beside the album name. If you want to include all the files in the catalog for Backup select the option beside “Media Not In Any Album”. Click ‘Backup/Sync Entire Catalog’ to synchronize the entire catalog.

Click ‘Restore Default Settings’ to restore the default settings.

How a new user can start Syncing his Catalog in Elemenets Organizer???

There are different ways of Starting Sync for a particular Catalog and here we are going to discuss one of the method which talks about Starting Sync through Preferences Dialog.

Here are the steps to Follow:

1. Sign in with your Adobe ID and Launch Backup/Sync Preferences. There are two methods to launch Sync-Preferences:
a. Click Elements Organizer Backup/Sync icon in Status-bar and select ‘Open Backup/Sync Preferences’. See image below to get an idea.

b. You can also click “Edit> Preferences > Backup/Synchronization…” to access the Backup/Sync  Preferences dialog box. See image below to get an idea.

In the Backup/Sync Preferences dialog box, select ‘Backup/Sync is ON’.

2. Set the Backup/Sync options.

3. Expand ‘Advanced Backup/Sync options’ to enable or disable the advanced options. For more on advanced preferences details Click Here.

4. Select the albums you want to sync. If you want to include all the files in the catalog for Backup/Sync, select the option beside ‘Media not in Any Album’.

5. The bar in the upper right area of the dialog box shows the ‘Estimated Online Space Used’ as you Backup/Sync your files. The estimated space includes the estimated space for the media files pending for Backup/Sync.

Note: If you reach the allotted storage limit, you can click ‘Upgrade Membership’ to purchase more storage space on Photoshop.com.

6. Click OK.

7. Elements Organizer continues to automatically sync media files on your computer and online account until you stop Backup/Sync manually.

Introduction to Backup/Sync in Photoshop Elements

Elements Organizer provides a facility to backup/Sync your media files like images, audio, videos to www.photoshop.com. This feature helps you synchronize all your PSE-Catalog Files/Albums with www.photoshop.com. Elements Organizer has an Engine which regularly checks for new changes in your catalog as well as online account. Whenever a user adds, edits any file/albums it’s automatically backed-up/synchronized to photoshop.com. If you edit a media file on your computer, it’s automatically synchronized with photoshop.com. Likewise if you edit media on Photoshop.com, the corresponding media files on your computer are updated with those edits. The edited version of the media file is downloaded and added in your catalog as a version-set of the original file. Similarly when you add or delete media files on your computer, Elements Organizer backs-up/synchronizes your albums and catalogs on to Photoshop.com server and vice versa. What do you want to know? What can be Synchronized between PSE and Photoshop.com

1. All Images, Camera-Raws, PSDs, Audios, Videos, PSE-files and PDFs.

2. Albums/Album-Categories/Tags

3. File Metadata

4. Files edited on Photoshop.com or PSE are automatically synchronized.

5. Only top file of a version-set is synchronized with Photoshop.com

6. All the Stack files are synced but shown individually on Photoshop.com

7. You can sync multiple computers with Photoshop.com.

What is not supported by PSE-Sync 

1. Slideshows are not synchronized

2. Version-set and Stack schemas are not supported on Photoshop.com

3. One Catalog can be synched with Photoshop.com at any point of time.

4. Album-Order is not synchronized.

1. Make sure you have an account on www.photoshop.com

2. You are signed in to your account through Photoshop Elements.

How to create an account on www.photoshop.com

1. Go to the www.photoshop.com and select ‘Join- get started’ OR

2. Directly select ‘Create New Adobe id’ from the Welcome Screen of Photoshop Elements

3. Provide the necessary information

4. Verify the account from your Email address

5. Sign-in to the account.
